Vietnam wins gold at PPA Tour Asia’s Panas Malaysia Open 2025
VOV.VN - Vietnam made a remarkable debut on the professional pickleball stage as young duo Tong Nhat Minh and Le Xuan Duc took a gold medal in the U18 Men’s Doubles at the PPA Tour Asia Panas Malaysia Open 2025, held on July 5.

Competing in their first-ever PPA Tour Asia event, the 17-year-old Vietnamese pair faced a tough challenge in the finals against Irfan Kamil and Ithan Kamil from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. After a shaky start—losing the first set 1–11 and trailing 0–5 in the second—they made a spectacular comeback, showcasing incredible composure, determination, and chemistry to win the match 2–1 in in breathtaking style.
This historic win not only secured Vietnam’s first-ever gold medal in a PPA Tour Asia tournament but also spotlighted Nhat Minh and Xuan Duc as rising stars in the sport. Their performance reflects the growing emergence of Vietnam as a new force in regional pickleball.
Tong Nhat Minh, a former table tennis player and current member of the Kamito Pickleball Team, has already made headlines with a Mixed Doubles Open title at the Astra Open (Dong Nai), playing alongside veteran Trinh Linh Giang. Known for his quick reflexes and strategic gameplay, Minh is considered one of Vietnam’s brightest young talents.
Meanwhile, Le Xuan Duc has equally impressed with his technical skills, calm under pressure, and strong match leadership, further cementing the duo’s reputation as a team to watch.

Vietnam’s success extended beyond the youth category. In the Pro Men’s Singles, seasoned athlete Trinh Linh Giang advanced to the final after a hard-fought 2–1 semifinal victory over Jack Wong of Hong Kong (China). The match was highly anticipated, as both athletes are former professional tennis players who transitioned to pickleball in 2024.
The Panas Malaysia Open 2025, the inaugural event under the new PPA Tour Asia system, brought together nearly 500 athletes from across the region, including top-tier players from Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia, and Thailand—reflecting the rapid rise of pickleball’s popularity and competitiveness in Asia.
