Vietnamese man involved in cross-border scam deported from Myanmar
VOV.VN - The police of Ninh Binh province said on May 14 they have received a Vietnamese man deported from Myanmar for his engagement in a cross-border scam.

Initial investigations revealed that Nguyen Van Cong, 31 of Ninh Binh province, had searched for high-paying jobs online and fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme.
Exploiting his desire for better income, scammers contacted him through social media, offering seemingly attractive job opportunities with promises like easy work, high salary and no experience required.
Convinced by these offers, Cong agreed to travel and was taken through several locations before being smuggled into Myanmar via unofficial routes. Upon arrival, he found himself forced into working at scam centres operated by foreign nationals. He was placed under strict surveillance and subjected to harsh working conditions.
The criminal group demanded that victims pay hundreds of millions of dong as “contract compensation” if they wanted to return home. Without money, Cong was trained to participate in online fraud schemes in order to deceive and defraud Vietnamese citizens.
Myanmar authorities eventually uncovered the operation and deported the man back to Vietnam.
The police said that they are continuing to carry out procedures to receive Vietnamese citizens who have been deported by Myanmar’s police force to promptly investigate and strictly handle cases according to legal provisions.
