The scooter, with registration number 73E1 – 039.88, bearing a Honda brand name and manufactured in 2011, burned at 7:30 on the morning of January 3 when it was parked in a house in Quang Long Commune, Quang Trach District, VietNamNet reported.

Pham Trung Dung, 25, the house owner, said he had earlier driven his child to school on the vehicle, and that the fire broke out shortly after he returned home.

After hearing a small explosion, Dung rushed to the motorbike and found that it was in flames. He used a blanket to cover the fire and then poured water on it, but this failed to prevent the fire from licking all the plastic parts of the vehicle.

Some important documents and VND210 million ($10,000) in cash that he had put in the boot of the motorbike also burnt up.

The money was a payment he had collected from a debtor of his company, and he intended to submit the cash to the company that morning.

He said he had bought the bike for VND37.2 million from Thanh Ngan Shop in the province’s Dong Hoi City about a month ago.

Local police are investigating the cause of the fire.
