The city aims to increase this year’s exports by 23 percent from a year earlier, according to the Municipal Department of Trade. The set target includes US$10 billion earnings from crude oil exports. Last year, Ho Chi Minh City’s export revenue reached US$12.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 26.1 percent.
The industrial sector is expected to account for 90 percent of the city’s export value this year. The ratio of such commodities as woodwork and handicraft products will be 40 percent, while textile and garment products are projected at 12 percent. North America is considered a major market which the city hopes will make up 35 percent of its total export earnings.
