Vietnamese pencak silat artists secured 11 gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the World Junior Pencak Silat Championships in Singapore on March 12 to successfully defend their team champion title.

15 Vietnamese young athletes participated in the combat (tanding) events of the tournament, and showed their absolute superiority as all but one were qualified for the finals and 11 won gold medals.

The new champions included nine men who are Vo Duy Phuong (45kg), Tran Vo Anh Duy (48kg), Luong Nhat Minh (54 kg), Hoang Van Thuan (57kg), Nguyen Van Trung (60kg), Nguyen Huy Tam (63kg), Pham Ngoc Hieu (66kg), Le Trong Ha (69kg), and Le Dang Minh (75kg), and two women who are Bui Thi Huong (45kg), and Doan Thi Loan (48kg).

This year’s championship attracted more than 200 athletes from 15 countries, including Belgium, Japan, Malaysia, the US, Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam and host Singapore, who competed for 25 sets of tanding medals and six sets of seni (performance) medals.

Vietnam was followed by Malaysia (four golds, four silvers, and seven bronzes), and Singapore (three golds, nine silvers and 10 bronzes.)
