Mr Trong, who is also Chairman of the current National Assembly, praised members of the National Election Council, Election Committees, central and local administrations and relevant agencies for their efforts and close cooperation in preparing for the election during the past weeks.
It was reported at the session that the National Election Council and Election Committees at the grassroots level have made timely preparations in a democratic and lawful manner. The final lists of 876 prospective candidates have been made public for voters to select 500 to the coming legislature. Localities have also completed the listing of voters to cast their ballots on May 20.
According to the report, as the voting day (May 20) is drawing near, propaganda activities have been enhanced through the media such as radio, television, online newspapers and printed matter. The settlement of complaints and denunciations has been made in a democratic and lawful manner. Most petitions focused on land management, social welfare policies for employees and invalids and the fight against corruption.
The Security Sub-committee reported that social order and stability has been maintained in all provinces and cities, and security plans have been adopted to respond to emergencies.
Acknowledging concerned parties’ efforts, Mr Trong underlined the need to arrange for meetings between voters and candidates and enhance the role of local Party organisations and administrations in creating conditions for voters to select the right candidates. He asked localities to pay more attention to training staff members of election councils as well as their demographic situation to ensure all eligible voters will go to the poll.
In addition to security plans, Mr Trong said it is imperative to enhance supervision to deal with issues which arise during the settlement of voter petitions. He also asked localities to provide technical backup for the election.
