Vietnam will have to import more than 1 million tonnes of paper this year, said Vo Sy Dong, General Director of the Vietnam Paper Corporation.
Addressing a conference to launch tasks for 2008 in Hanoi on January 28, General Director Dong noted that the increasing import is due to growing consumption demand while the industry has a limited production capacity.
Meanwhile, the development of material forests is facing difficulties because of land shortage and uncontrolled logging, he said.
Last year, Vietnam imported around 820,000 tonnes of paper, a year-on-year rise of 16 percent, and more than 120,000 tonnes of pulp paper.
