Da Nang suspends paragliding service following fatal accident
VOV.VN - The Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has decided to suspend all paragliding activities on Son Tra Peninsula to assess flight safety conditions following a fatal accident on July 8.

The serious accident happened at around 5:45PM during a tandem paragliding flight over Son Tra Peninsula, Da Nang.
Hoang Quoc T., a 36-year-old tourist from Hung Yen province, was flying in tandem with a professional pilot when the paraglider lost control and crashed into a mountainside near the coastline.
The tourist died at the scene, while the pilot suffered minor injuries.
Immediately after the accident, local authorities, including fire and rescue teams, police, border guards, local defense forces, and the Son Tra Peninsula Management Board, launched a search and rescue operation. They retrieved the victim's body around 7:50 PM that same evening.
According to local authorities, paragliding on Son Tra Peninsula has been conducted on a pilot basis since 2023.
There are five licensed companies operating in this area, including Tropical Forest Services Co., Ltd. - the company that organised the tandem flight involved in the recent fatal accident.
Initial inspections have shown that this company’s legal documents are complete, including participant insurance, safety commitments, and incident response procedures.
Though paragliding is an extreme sport, it has been one of the most attractive tourism and adventure experiences in Da Nang in recent years. While extreme sports inherently carry risks of accidents, this is the first time a fatal incident has occurred in Da Nang.
While awaiting the results of the official investigation into the accident, the authorities will also conduct a comprehensive review of all paragliding-related business and tourism activities, including operational procedures, service providers, and flight safety protocols.
