Agro-forestry-fishery exports reach US$29.1 billion so far

Agro-forestry-fishery exports were estimated to reach US$2.69 billion in November, pushing total figure so far this year to US$29.1 billion, a rise of 5.9% over the same period last year.

The results make the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s set export value target of US$31 billion for this year more feasible.

However, in November, rice exports saw a sharp drop as only 353,000 tonnes were sold for US$156 million. In the first 11 months of this year, the country shipped abroad 4.54 million tonnes of rice for US$2 billion, a year on year fall of 25% in volume and 20.3% in value.

At the same time, decrease was also seen in export of cassava and cassava products, as 294,000 tonnes were bought for US$80 million, which raised the figures in January-November to 3.3 million tonnes and US$896 million, respectively, down 12.3% and 24.9% over the same period last year.

China was the largest consumer of Vietnam’s rice, cassava and cassava products. The country imported 36% of Vietnam’s total exported rice and 86.2% of shipped cassava and cassava products.

Meanwhile, rubber exports enjoyed high growth with an export volume of 117,000 tonnes and a value of US$165 million, raising the figures so far this year to 1.1 million tonnes and US$1.43 million, an increase 12.3% and 4.6%, respectively, compared to the same time in 2015.

Major agri-products, such as coffee, peppercorn and tea, still maintained good growth in export.

In the 11-month period, Vietnam exported 1.6 million tonnes of coffee for US$2.98 billion, a surge of 36.1% and 24.3%, respectively; 230,000 tonnes of cashew for US$2.59 billion, up 6.2% in volume and 18.3% in value. Peppercorn exports also enjoyed a 15% rise to reach US$1.37 billion.

Shipment of aquatic products in November was estimated to hit US$6.4 billion, up 6.9% year on year, while that of major forestry products is US$6.5 billion, a rise of 0.8%.
