Yonex Sunrise attracts badminton players from 17 countries

VOV.VN - The Ciputra Hanoi-Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge 2023 kicks off in Hanoi on March 22, attracting 309 local and foreign players from 17 countries and territories around the world.

Athletes competed in five categories, including men's and women's singles and doubles, as well as mixed doubles.

Among players are world No 37 Heo Kwaee Hee of the Republic of Korea, who is also the No 1 seed in the men's singles, and No 46 Sim Yu Jin of the Republic of Korea, the top candidate in the women's singles.

The leading men's doubles are Indonesian pair Gutama Sabar Karyaman and Isfahani Moh Reza Pahlevi, currently ranked at No 50 in the world.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese star Nguyen Thuy Linh (World No 49) is seeded No 2 in the women's singles, which is the highest ranking of the hosts.

Others include rising star Vu Thi Anh Thu and Olympian Vu Thi Trang in the women's singles and former world No 5 Nguyen Tien Minh, as well as Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang in the men's pool.

The tournament has a total prize pool of up to US$15,000. The winner of each category will be awarded US$1,200, while first and second runners-up will each get US$720 and US$300, respectively.

This year marks the 12th edition of the tournament following three years of postponements due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
