Vietnam secure semifinal spot at Shanghai Future Stars 2025

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women’s volleyball team convincingly defeated U21 Canada 3-0 in the quarterfinals of Shanghai Future Stars 2025 on July 17, advancing to the semifinals of the tournament.

Facing off against young opponents from Canada, the Vietnamese team, led by head coach Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, were considered the stronger side thanks to their experience and cohesive play. Despite encountering some resistance in the opening set, the Vietnamese players showed their composure to edge out a narrow 26-24 win.

The second and third sets saw Vietnam take full control of the match. With a diverse attacking strategy and excellent coordination, Nguyen Thi Phuong and her teammates secured commanding 25-13 and 25-16 victories to seal a straight-sets win.

The victory helped Vietnam to earn a spot in the semifinals of the 2025 Shanghai Future Stars Tournament. Their next opponents are likely to be the U21 Netherlands, who are considered stronger than the U21 France in the remaining quarter-final match on the evening of July 17.

The team’s consistent form and the strong development of its young talents reaffirm Vietnam’s status as a seeded contender at the tournament and mark an important milestone in preparation for upcoming international competitions.

The Shanghai Future Stars 2025 international volleyball tournament is taking place at Luwan Gymnasium in Shanghai, China, from July 13–19, featuring eight youth and national teams from prominent volleyball nations.

The Vietnam women’s national volleyball team delivered a strong group-stage performance with wins over U21 France and U21 Bauru (Brazil), and a loss to U21 China. In the quarterfinals, Vietnam continued their solid form by defeating U21 Canada 3-0.
