U20 women’s team gearing up for 2026 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers
VOV.VN - After a tough loss to Thailand in the ASEAN U-19 Women’s Championship, the Vietnam U20 women’s football team are now training hard to prepare for the coming 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.

Currently in their second week of training, players are set to head to Japan for an intensive training camp from July 11 to 21, where they will also play friendly matches against several top Japanese women's teams.
Head coach Okiyama Masahiko described the Japan trip as a crucial training phase to build strength, sharpen skills, and regain confidence ahead of the qualifiers. To fine-tune the squad, the Japanese coach has made adjustments by releasing four players and bringing in four new faces to improve team balance and performance.
“The players didn’t show their full potential or the confidence required during the ASEAN tournament. This training camp is a chance to work on weaknesses and develop further,” said Masahiko.
The focus during this period will be on tactical drills, mental readiness, and competitive match experience, which are vital heading into the Asian qualifiers, added the Japanese coach.
Vietnam will compete in Group B alongside Kyrgyzstan, Hong Kong (China), and Singapore in their bid to qualify for the final tournament. All the games will be held at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre in Hanoi from August 6 to 10.
