The gol medals went to two female athletes - Trieu Thu Thuy and Phung Mui Nhinh who are both from the Dao ethnic group and currently train at the Cao Bang Centre for Sports and Arts Training and Competition.

Thuy, 17, won gold in the women’s 44kg Newaza Gi and bronze in the 44kg Fighting category. Meanwhile, Nhinh, 19, clinched gold in the under-52kg Fighting category. Over recent years, she has consistently performed at a high level, winning gold and two bronze medals at the 2023 National Jujitsu Championships, and one gold and one bronze at the 2024 National Club Championship.

This year’s July 10-13 championship features 800 athletes from across Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, and Cambodia, competing in Newaza Gi, Newaza Nogi, Fighting, and Performance divisions.

Vietnam’s national jujitsu team comprise 93 athletes, with five hailing from Cao Bang, namely Phung Mui Nhinh, Trinh Thi Nhay, Trieu Thu Thuy, Trieu To Khanh, and Vuong Tri Hai.

The outstanding performance of Trieu Thu Thuy and Phung Mui Nhinh not only contributes to Vietnam’s growing reputation in regional jujitsu but also highlights the potential of ethnic minority athletes, particularly those from Cao Bang province.
