National football team to have new Korean assistant coach

VOV.VN - Coach Kim Sang-sik has proposed that the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) hire a new assistant coach following the departure of his former assistant, Choi Won-kwon, who has returned to his homeland.

The new assistant is former Korean defender Lee Jung-soo, who played for the Korean national team from 2008 to 2013 period. He made his mark at the 2010 World Cup with two important goals to help the home team reach the round of 16.

According to several sources, Lee Jung-soo has already arrived in Vietnam to negotiate with the VFF.

Previously, he also served as assistant for Korean coach Chung Hae-seong at Ho Chi Minh City FC from 2018 to 2020.

In addition, Lee Woon-jae will continue to serve as Kim Sang-sik's assistant. In 2024, Lee Woon-jae signed a short-term contract as a goalkeeping coach for the Vietnamese national team.
