However, his Italian rival fought back to hold Nam to a 3-3 draw in the second set.
The Italian continued the fight back and went onto a record a victory with the final score of 6-2.
Hoang Nam and the Vietnamese tennis team will next compete in the Davis Cup Asia-Pacific Zone Group III, which is set to take place in Singapore during May.
