Long An wrestler wins historic gold at Asian Wrestling Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnamese wrestler Pham Huynh Minh Hieu, a young wrestler from Long An province, has made history by claiming a Gold Medal in the beach wrestling 90kg weight category at the 2025 U17 & U23 Asian Wrestling Championships.

Minh Hieu delivered an outstanding performance to secure the province’s first-ever gold medal at continental level on June 27. The tournament was held in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, Vietnam, from June 16 to 28.
This marks the first time that Vietnam has hosted a major continental youth-level wrestling championship, which represents a milestone in the country’s sporting history.
This year, Long An sent three athletes as part of the Vietnamese national wrestling team. Thanks to his consistent form in recent competitions, Minh Hieuoutperformed his rivals in the U17 beach wrestling 90kg weight class, clinching the historic victory.
This remarkable achievement further cements Long An’s status as a rising powerhouse in wrestling, particularly among southern provinces of Vietnam.
The 2025 U17 & U23 Asian Wrestling Championships was co-organised by the Vietnam Sports Administration, United World Wrestling, Asian Wrestling Federation, Vietnam Wrestling Federation, and the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. The event brought together nearly 1,000 athletes and coaches from 24 countries and territories across Asia.
Competitors vied for medals in four main disciplines: Greco-Roman, Men’s Freestyle, Women’s Freestyle, and Beach Wrestling.
Athletes competed across all disciplines, including freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman (men’s classical wrestling), and women’s freestyle.
