Dozens of flares were set off by Haiphong fans during the sixth round fixture between Hanoi FC and Haiphong FC which took place on April 21.
When Haiphong FC goalkeeper Van Toan saved a penalty kick by Hanoi FC’s forward Pape Omar in the 41st minute, away fans threw flares onto the pitch in jubilation. Referee Ngo Duy Lan was forced to halt the match for several minutes as the smoke was affecting the vision of players.
