Badminton: Trang advances, Minh loses

No 3 seed Vu Thi Trang of Vietnam defeated Japanese Haruko Suzuki 21-17, 21-15 in the second round match of the Celcom Axiata Malaysia International Challenge badminton tournament on November 10 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Trang needed only 38 minutes to beat her rival and booked a berth in the quarter-final round.

She will face No 5 seed Yen Mei Ho of Malaysia who beat Chinese Taipei Lin Ying Chun 21-12, 17-21, 21-16.

On the men’s side, No 1 seed Nguyen Tien Minh lost 21-13, 18-21, 21-12 to Indian Ramachandran Satheishtharan.

Undeeded Satheishtharan will next meet Malaysian Soo Teck Zhi, seeded No 8. Soo defeated No 11 Andre Marteen of Indonesia 21-15, 21-18.

Vietnamese duo Bao Minh and Duong Bao Duc were defeated 16-21, 21-19, 15-21 by Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif and Watchara Buranakuea of Malaysia.
