WWF assists Thua Thien-Hue with biodiversity conservation, sustainable development

Under the document, both parties will enhance sustainable forest management, conserve biodiversity and wildlife, promote sustainable energy, address climate change, increase marine conservation, and reduce plastic waste.

They will promote sustainable food systems, protect water resources and freshwater ecosystems, and develop nature-based solutions. Additionally, they will plan to research and develop the Tam Giang - Cau Hai Lagoon system into a national lagoon park with wetlands, which is crucial for national and international environmental conservation.

At the signing ceremony, Nguyen Van Phuong, head of the Thua Thien - Hue provincial administration, noted that the cooperation document will lay a vital foundation for establishing a cooperation framework for 2025-2030 between the two sides, so as to help mobilize long-term resources to support local programs and projects related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

In recent times, WWF Vietnam has implemented various projects to assist Thua Thien - Hue in enhancing the sustainable management of natural resources and improving the livelihoods and awareness of local communities, helping to reduce the risk of illegal logging and wildlife poaching, gradually recognize the value of biodiversity, and promote sustainable conservation practices.

The “Hue - Plastic Reduction City in Central Vietnam” project, funded by WWF Norway through WWF Vietnam, has exerted a positive impact on the landscape and environment of Thua Thien - Hue. The project has supported waste classification at source, collection, treatment, and the promotion of recycling efforts, raising public awareness and changing behaviours related to plastic waste.

WWF also acts as a bridge between Thua Thien - Hue and many international organizations to support the locality in forest management, nature conservation, and adaptation to climate change.
