*** A powerful whirlwind accompanied by torrential rain struck the northern port city of Hai Phong, causing damage to hundreds of containers at Hai Phong port. The strong wind blew off the roofs of many houses and uprooted hundreds of big trees. In Hong Bang district, two local residents were injured after being hit by pieces of roofs from a warehouse nearby.
*** At least one person was killed and another was injured after a whirlwind swept through Lap Thach and Tam Duong districts of the northern midland province of Vinh Phuc. The natural calamity destroyed 13 houses, blew off the roofs of 2,209 other houses and brought down 211 electric poles, causing an estimated loss of VND15 billion.
*** Earlier on March 21, a whirlwind and hailstorms hit 10 communes of Bach Thong district, the northern mountainous province of Bac Can. Tan Tien, Quan Binh and Sy Binh communes were the hardest hit, with 140 houses damaged and 20 percent of the subsidiary crops completely destroyed.
*** A big whirlwind occurred in Nam Tam commune, Chieng Ho district of the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau on March 21, bringing down the roof of many homes and big trees. A two-year-old child was seriously injured after being hit by a piece of roof. The strong wind swept through Lai Chau town, leaving many branches of big trees and advertisement posters scattered on the streets. The power network in the town was paralysed for the whole day. There were no more details on the damage.
