Whirlwinds claim 18 lives in Myanmar

Hostile weather patterns and whirlwinds claimed 18 lives and injured 24 others in Mandalay, the second largest city of Myanmar, local press said on May 5. 

Strong winds destroyed thousands of houses and buildings, and unroofed tens of thousands of others in the city. 

The harsh weather also killed 1,410 cattle and injured more than 120. 

The total damage is estimated at US$2.6 million.
