Vietnam’s traditional medicine draws attention at BioNCiD 2025 in Cuba
VOV.VN - The unique values of Vietnam’s traditional medicine drew significant attention at the International Congress on Biopharm Nonclinical Development (BioNCiD 2025), held in Varadero, Cuba, on May 25 - 26.

In his presentation, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Trong Nghia, deputy director of the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine offered fresh perspectives on integrating traditional knowledge with modern medical practices.
His presentation provided an in-depth look at the country’s traditional medicine system, highlighting a nationwide network of specialised hospitals and well-trained practitioners. Notably, achievements in using herbal remedies and traditional therapies to support cancer treatment garnered special interest from international delegates.
The discussion on the immune mechanisms of ancient herbal formulas further underscored the potential for bilateral research collaboration between Vietnam and Cuba.
Organised by Cuba’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), BioNCiD 2025 brought together global experts, scientists, and pharmaceutical industry representatives. It focused on nonclinical development of drugs and biopharmaceuticals, advances in pharmacokinetics and toxicology, drug – drug interaction assessments, nonclinical regulatory updates, and the use of in silico, mathematical and other alternative nonclinical methods in biomedical research.
Importantly, the event emphasised the 3Rs principle (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) in research, along with high standards for animal welfare and research ethics. It encouraged scientific and regulatory progress in the nonclinical evaluation of biotech and pharmaceutical products, while facilitating networking and exchanges among leading international academic and industry experts.
The congress not only served as a bridge for Vietnam’s traditional medicine to reach a global audience, but also opened promising prospects for collaboration between traditional health care and Cuba’s advanced biotechnology sector. In the near future, Vietnam’s ancient remedies may undergo systematic scientific research with the support of modern technologies, creating high-quality healthcare products that merge the best of both Eastern and Western medicine.
