Vietnamese rescue workers save a survivor from Myanmar earthquake

VOV.VN - Vietnamese rescue workers in collaboration with colleagues from Myanmar and Turkey on April 2 saved a survivor from the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.

Htet Maung Maung, a 26-year-old chef, had been trapped inside the Aye Chan Thar hotel in Naypyidaw since the earthquake jolted Myanmar.

When rescue teams reached him, he was able to communicate and reported that his health was stable, though he had been without food and water for several days.

U Myint Lin, the father of the survivor, shared that when the earthquake hit Myanmar, Htet Maung Maung was working at the hotel. For nearly a week, the family had received no news about him until they heard the incredible news that the man was still alive.

After being rescued, Htet Maung Maung was immediately placed in an ambulance and transported to the hospital for check-ups and treatment.

Vietnam has sent a 106-member rescue team from the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to Myanmar to assist in rescue and recovery efforts. It has also announced US$300,000 in emergency aid to support Myanmar’s disaster relief efforts.

The earthquake caused severe damage in Myanmar, with more than 2,000 fatalities, approximately 3,400 injuries, and around 300 people still missing. The international community has quickly mobilized aid, sent rescue teams and provided emergency assistance to help Myanmar recover from the disaster.
