A seminar was held in Can Tho City on August 23 to discuss biological technology in Vietnam, and development trends for the future.

According to the Inter-Governmental Committee on Climate Change, the Mekong River Delta region is one of three global hot spots that have been hardest hit by sea rising levels and climate change.

Last year, the US Geological Survey forecast that rising sea levels and the falling water levels of the Mekong River will cause salt water infiltration which pollutes fresh water sources.

Researchers at the seminar said that applying biological technology in the Mekong River Delta region and across Vietnam will improve productivity, raise farmers’ incomes, ensure the food supply and improve adaptability to climate change.

The event was co-organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, theUS  embassy and Can Tho University.
