Vietnamese agency works to rescue nationals in Taiwan’s quake

The Vietnam Office of Economics and Culture in Chinese Taipei is making its utmost efforts to ensure safety for four Vietnamese citizens who have been trapped in a collapsed building after an earthquake hit Taiwan (China) on February 6.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake hit Kaohsiung city in the south of Taiwan at a depth of 15 km at 3:57 a.m (local time) on February 6. The quake had a magnitude of 6.7.

According to local media, the earthquake has left at least 11 dead and 462 others injured.

Earthquakes frequently jolt Taiwan. Most of them are minor, but a 7.3-magnitude quake, the strongest to hit Taiwan in about 100 years, shook the island on September 21, 1999, leaving more than 2,000 people dead.
