Vietnam, Uzbekistan foster people-to-people diplomacy

The Vietnam–Uzbekistan Friendship Association convened its sixth national congress for the 2025–2030 term in Hanoi on May 17.

Over the past five years, the association has made significant efforts in organising practical and meaningful people-to-people diplomacy activities. These efforts have contributed to promoting the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries' people, in alignment with the foreign policy and guidelines of the Vietnamese Party and the State, according to a report presented at the congress.

The association also closely collaborated with the Uzbekistan–Vietnam Friendship Association and the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Cooperation with Foreign Countries of Uzbekistan to organise a wide range of people-to-people exchange activities. These initiatives helped strengthen mutual understanding and promote the cultures and people of both countries.

For the new term, delegates agreed on the need to innovate and enhance the effectiveness of the association’s operations in order to achieve tangible results in people-to-people diplomacy. This includes promoting Vietnam’s domestic and foreign policies, showcasing its achievements in the doi moi (renewal) cause, and sharing information about the history, culture, and people of both nations. Such efforts aim to deepen bilateral solidarity and cooperation for peace, independence, democracy, and social progress.

Delegates also emphasised the importance of strengthening the association’s overall capacity as a foundation for fostering stronger Vietnam–Uzbekistan relations. They called for support from Uzbek friends for Vietnam’s national construction and development .

The congress elected a 48-member Executive Committee for the 2025–2030 term, with Ambassador Lai Ngoc Doan as president.
