Vietnam, UK push for closer cooperation in security and human trafficking prevention
VOV.VN - Vietnam and the UK have reaffirmed their close cooperation in dealing with migration and immigration issues, with a focus on key areas such as preventing illegal migration and human trafficking.

General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security hosted a reception in Hanoi on March 4 for Simon Ridley, Second Permanent Secretary at the UK Home Office.
Welcoming Minister Ridley and his delegation, Minister Luong Tam Quang showed his great joy at the successful conclusion of the third Vietnam-UK Migration and Immigration Dialogue.
He stressed that the dialogue mechanism plays a pivotal role in exchanging views on matters of shared concern, clarifying each side’s stance on emerging issues, and identifying cooperative measures to elevate the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership, particularly in national security and public order.
Quang called on both sides to concretize the outcomes achieved, actively carry out agreed-upon commitments, and better meet each other's expectations and needs.
To further bilateral cooperation, he proposed the implementation of signed agreements, including the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Human Trafficking Prevention, the MoU on Immigration Information Sharing, the MoU on Migration Issues, and the Joint Statement of the third Vietnam-UK Migration and Immigration Dialogue.
He also suggested intensifying delegation exchanges at all levels, especially among experts, to share expertise and information on preventing human trafficking and illegal migration. He also called for joint investigations into fraudulent asylum claims and human trafficking networks for profit, ensuring violators face legal consequences.
Furthermore, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed expanding cooperation in areas where the UK Home Office has expertise, such as combating cybercrime, financial crimes, money laundering, and the counterfeiting of passports and other documents.
On this occasion, he urged the UK Home Office to facilitate legal residency, employment, and study opportunities for Vietnamese citizens in the UK, considering it a preventive measure against illegal migration.
For his part, Simon Ridley hailed the growing cooperation between the two ministries, particularly their effective coordination in the third Vietnam-UK Migration and Immigration Dialogue held earlier in Hanoi.
He affirmed that the UK Home Office will continue to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to implement signed agreements, including the MoU on Human Trafficking Prevention, the MoU on Immigration Information Sharing, and the Joint Statement of the third Vietnam-UK Migration and Immigration Dialogue. He also expressed willingness to expand cooperation in areas where the UK Home Office has expertise.
Also on the same day, Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and the UK Home Office co-hosted the third Vietnam-UK Migration and Immigration Dialogue.
During the dialogue, both sides reaffirmed their close cooperation in addressing migration and immigration issues, with a focus on efforts in key areas such as preventing illegal migration and human trafficking, raising public awareness through communication campaigns, repatriation and legal migration pathways, and developing measures to prevent unlawful border crossings while encouraging safe and legal migration through information-sharing and capacity-building activities.
At the conclusion of the dialogue, both sides signed a Joint Statement, reaffirming their commitment to bolstering cooperation and initiatives aimed at more effectively dismantling organized crime groups involved in illegal migration, human trafficking, and related security threats.
