Unusual spell of hailstones strikes Quang Nam amidst dry season
VOV.VN - An unexpected period of hail hit Tra Mai commune and Nam Tra My district in the central province of Quang Nam amidst the dry season, on the afternoon of April 18.
The hail started pouring in Tra Mai commune and Nam Tra My district at around 2:30 p.m. and lasted for about 30 minutes, with hailstones measuring about one to three centimetres in diametre, according to the People’s Committee of Nam Tra My district.
Fortunately, hail did not cause considerable human or property damage.
According to the administration of Nam Tra My district, the phenomenon occurs quite often in the Ngoc Linh ginseng growing area, including Tra Linh, Tra Nam, and Tra Tap communes, resulting in damage to subsidiary crops.
This was the first time that hail had occurred in lower areas such as Nam Tra My district and Tra Mai commune.
Nam Tra My district is forecast to continue to suffer from heavy rain and thunderstorms up to the end of the week.
Local authorities have directed forces to assist residents as they strive to quickly overcome difficulties and resume their normal life.
