UNDP supports building 300 houses for flood victims in central region

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will support the construction of 300 houses in the central provinces of Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen and Quang Nam, which were seriously affected by typhoon Damrey in 2017.

Representatives of the UNDP met with the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee on January 4 to discuss implementing the project.

Each house will be built at a cost of nearly VND50 million (US$2,200).

Beneficiaries include impoverished households and those whose houses were destroyed by the storm.

In Khanh Hoa, the provincial Red Cross Society will build about 100 houses for flood victims in the four hardest-hit districts of Van Ninh, Dien Khanh, Khanh Vinh and Cam Lam.

The locality will step up efforts to construct 50 houses before the Lunar New Year, according to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dac Tai.

Damrey hit Vietnam on November 4, 2017,  affecting more than 4.3 million people and damaging more than 303,500 houses.
