Storm No 4 likely to head towards central provinces

VOV.VN - A tropical depression currently in the mainland of the Philippines’ Luzon island is forecast to develop into a storm on September 17 before heading towards Vietnamese central coastal provinces and enterning the East Sea on September 18, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Forecasters said at 7:00 a.m. on September 17 that the centre of the tropical low pressure was located on the mainland of Luzon island of the Philippines with the strongest wind near its eye reaching between 50km and 61km per hour.

The weather pattern is predicted to track in a western direction at about between 15km and 20km per hour. Over the course of the next 48 to 72 hours the storm is likely to change direction as it travels in a west-northwest direction at speeds of about 10km per hour.

Due to the impact of the tropical depression, there will be strong winds and rough seas occurring in the northeastern area of the East Sea.

The northeastern part of the East Sea is anticipated to see sea waves at a height of up to three metres and five metres from the afternoon of September 17.

This comes on September 16 when the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) issued a telegram requesting that the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Binh Thuan proactively respond to the tropical depression.

Localities have duly been requested to closely monitor the developments of the tropical depression and to notify vessels operating at sea about the location and developments of the weather pattern in order to avoid moving into dangerous areas.

Relevant agencies and localities have therefore been asked to fully prepare all forces and equipment for rescue operations, while arranging staff on-duty and regularly reporting to the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control to enable timely response measures to be implemented.
