The Central Steering Committee for the General Census of Population and Housing said on April 17 that it has almost completed its work with more than 91 percent of the country’s households taking part in the census.
However, the figure was only 83.3 percent in Ho Chi Minh City, where there is a large number of migrant workers in industrial parks, and census takers often had to go three or four times to meet the house owners.
The figure fell to 80.6 percent in the northwestern mountainous province of Lai Chau and to 80 percent in mountainous Thai Nguyen province as the survey activities have faced huge difficulties due to zigzag topography and recent heavy rains.
The Central Steering Committee has asked its provincial and municipal counterparts to exert greater efforts to ensure the census will be completed on April 20 as scheduled.
