Police launch campaign against traffic law violators from May 15
VOV.VN - Traffic police nationwide are gearing up to impose hefty fines on individuals who break traffic laws as part of a month-long crackdown campaign starting on May 15.
Traffic police are to be deployed to checkpoints to regulate road users and handle any violations regarding traffic rules. In order to ensure the campaign runs successfully, officers will be permitted to stop any vehicle to carry out a check regardless of any clear evidence of wrongdoing.
The launch of the campaign comes after traffic law violations have risen in recent days, with a spike occurring following the lifting of nationwide travel restrictions imposed in April as a result of the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Lieutenant General Vu Do Anh Dung, Director of the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, says police forces will focus on violations of regulations relating to alcohol consumption, drug use, illegal motorcycle races, and resistance against on-duty officials, among others.
Earlier this year, Vietnam enacted the Law on Alcohol Harm Prevention and Control in an attempt to reduce the number of traffic accidents caused by drunk drivers.
