Overseas Vietnamese welcome Lunar New Year
VOV.VN - Overseas Vietnamese have enjoyed a warm celebration of the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) hosted recently by the Vietnamese permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York.

A Tet celebration was held by the Vietnamese Student Association and Youth Association in Tokyo, Japan, for the Vietnamese community. Attendants included representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy and social organizations, Vietnamese expats, and especially many Japanese who have a special love for Vietnam.
Buddhist followers attended the Tet celebration at the Phat Tich Pagoda, in Vientiane, Laos. Charity programs were organized by the pagoda to help poor people enjoy warmer Tet. 100 gift sets were given to poor people.
The Vietnamese community in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, held a get-together to welcome Tet last weekend. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Thach Du asked the Vietnamese community to unite, help each other and build a good relationship with Cambodian authorities.
The Vietnamese Embassy hosted a get-together for the Vietnamese community in Argentina on January 15 to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
The event was attended by more than 100 participants who are embassy staff, Vietnamese people in localities across Argentina and Argentinean friends, including Chairman of the Argentina-Vietnam Culture Institute Poldi Sosa.
In his speech, Ambassador Nguyen Dinh Thao reviewed the domestic situation as well as the progress of the Vietnam-Argentina relations.
He affirmed the country’s attention to the Vietnamese community abroad, while lauding the solidarity and mutual support of Vietnamese people in Argentina in settling their life in the host country.
The same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, also held a get-together to welcome the New Year of the Rooster, which drew about 400 Vietnamese people in the country and local friends.
Ambassador to Malaysia Pham Cao Phong praised the achievements made by the Vietnamese community, especially their mutual assistance during hard time.
During the event, outstanding individuals and collectives were honoured.
Meanwhile, overseas Vietnamese in Macau and Hong Kong (China), also held diverse activities to welcome traditional lunar New Near.
