Nearly 200 tourists left stranded on Cat Ba Island ahead of Yagi landfall
VOV.VN - The suspension of passenger transport vessels, ferries, and cable cars due to the impending impact of super typhoon Yagi, which is currently moving towards the mainland, has left nearly 200 tourists stranded on Cat Ba Island of the northern city of Hai Phong.

Of the total, 104 are international visitors.
Local authorities have therefore requested all nearby hotels and motels to reduce room rates by 50% to accommodate the stranded visitors.
This discount is part of a collective effort made by the Cat Ba tourism community aimed at providing the best support for tourists during their stay in order to avoid the impact of typhoon.
Under a decision recently made by the Hai Phong administration, from 11 a.m. on September 6 transportation from Cat Ba Island to the mainland such as high-speed boats, the Dong Bai – Cai Vieng ferry, and the Cat Hai – Phu Long cable car were forced to cease.
The super typhoon is currently situated about 450km southeast of the coastal province of Quang Ninh and will make a landfall on September 7 afternoon, said the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Yagi, the third to hit Vietnam this year, is moving at maximum wind speeds of 184 to 201kmh near its eye.
