The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the southern most province of Ca Mau have agreed to implement a programme using nun-refundable aid from Japan, to help poor farmers reduce poverty and improve their living conditions in 2008.

The Japanese government will provide fertilizer for Ca Mau’s farmers at a low price. The money from the sale of the fertilizer will be deposited into a fund to help local farmers increase the efficiency of their businesses.

The JICA also plans to start a project to enhance the community’s capacity in the U Minh Ha area over the next two years, with a total investment of nearly US$4.7 million, which will be allocated from Japan’s nun-refundable aid for community development.

The project aims to improve the efficiency of agricultural, forestry and fisheries production in the U Minh Ha area. It will deploy measures to ensure sustainable forestry development, improve health care services and build roads in the targeted areas.
