Hanoi continues to top list of world’s most air polluted cities

VOV.VN - The capital experienced a day with very poor air quality on March 22, with the conditions seriously affecting human health, notably the elderly, children, and people suffering from respiratory diseases.

According to the PAM air quality system in the country, the air quality index (AQI) reached 150 to 200 at 5:30 p.m. at several monitoring stations across the city, thereby representing a level unhealthy for humans.

Indeed, the monitoring station at the Vietnam National University of Agriculture in Gia Lam district recorded the highest AQI value at 193.

Most notably, in early March the area also regularly recorded high air pollution indexes of up to 404, indicating that the overall quality of air was at its worst possible level.

In addition, Swiss-based air quality technology company IQAir reported that the city took the lead among global cities with the worst air quality after it hit 181.

It went on to reveal that the fine particulate matter level being recorded in Hanoi also increased sharply, standing at 22.8 times higher than the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines’ annual safe level.
