Da Nang Hospital inks training co-operation program with German partners

The five-year long program is aimed at implementing a screening process to detect congenital heart defects as well as accessing a new supply of medical equipment.

The Heart for Heart Foundation for Life was first established in 2003 and founded by Dr. Erich Lejeune. Since 2005, the organisation has directly provided support and treatment for children with congenital heart defects across Vietnam.

The foundation has had a presence in Da Nang since 2006, with more than VND63 billion being pumped into Da Nang Hospital to establish a state-of-the-art cardiology intervention room and provide modern medical equipment.

The foundation has also helped Da Nang hospital to train and equip Vietnamese doctors with treatment techniques for patients with congenital heart defects. With such support, Da Nang Hospital has been able to perform surgeries on more than 2,000 children who suffer from congenital heart defects and over 2,000 other cases.

Dr. Le Duc Nhan, director of Da Nang Hospital, said the hospital plans to connect with the German Heart Institute and other relevant units to dispatch a number of Vietnamese doctors to learn cardiac ultrasound techniques in the future.
