Cyberattacks on systems in Vietnam on the decline

VOV.VN - According to recent statistics from the Authority of Information Security under the Ministry of Information and Communications, there were 204 cyberattacks on information systems in Vietnam in October, a decrease of 18.4% from the previous month and a drop of 79.8% compared to the same period in 2023.

Cumulatively from the beginning of the year to the end of October, there were 4,483 cyberattacks on systems in Vietnam, down by over 57% compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, the decline was most seen in the last three months, with incidents decreasing continuously from 349 in August to 250 in September, and further down to 204 in October.

Experts from the Authority of Information Security observed that this three-month consecutive decline indicates improved awareness and proactive measures by domestic organizations and businesses regarding information security.

While the number of cyber incidents targeting systems in Vietnam has shown a strong decline, the sophistication and danger of cyberattack campaigns are reportedly on the rise. Ransomware attacks on entities have significantly impacted their operations, finances, and reputation.

To proactively counter these risks, the Authority of Information Security recommended three main solutions, namely planning effective responses, allocating sufficient investment in information security, and regularly practicing response plans.

Organizations should develop a comprehensive information security plan that includes monitoring, protection, and system recovery measures, it suggested.

Organizations are encouraged to allocate around 10% of their IT budgets to regular security tools and costs, ensuring consistent and adequate investment in information security solutions, said the agency.
