COVID-19: HCM City records nearly 500 new cases over six hours

VOV.VN - A further 603 locally acquired coronavirus cases have been documented in 13 cities and provinces across Vietnam during the past six hours, with Ho Chi Minh City alone recording 479 cases.

Of the total, 480 cases were detected in quarantine or lockdown areas, while the remaining 123 cases are under investigation, the Ministry of Health said in its 12.00am COVID-19 update on July 9.

Most of the cases were recorded in southern Vietnam with 479 cases documented in Ho Chi Minh City, 66 in Binh Duong, 17 in Dong Nai, nine in Tra Vinh, and four in Ba Ria – Vung Tau.

Elsewhere, nine new cases were reported in Bac Giang, seven in Bac Ninh, seven in Quang Ngai, two in Hanoi and one each in Vinh Phuc, Lam Dng and Thanh Hoa.

Meanwhile, six people returning from overseas through land and air border gates have tested positive for the virus during the past six hours. They were all diagnosed in concentrated quarantine facilities, thus posing no risks to the community.

Vietnam has documented nearly 22,000 positive cases in 55 out of all 63 cities and provinces nationwide following the resurgence of the virus on April 27.

HCM City, the busiest and most populous city in Vietnam, remains the largest coronavirus hotspot, recording nearly 10,000 cases.

Overall Vietnam has confirmed a total of 25,419 cases since the virus attacked the country in January 2020.

As many as 8,950 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.

About 105 patients have died of COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses.

Close to 4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Vietnam, with 235,570 people fully receiving two shots.
