COVID-19: 40 more community cases detected, daily caseload rises to 114
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health confirmed an additional 40 COVID-19 cases in six localities on May 20 afternoon, raising Vietnam’s daily caseload to 114.
Bac Giang province, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot, recorded 24 more cases, mostly at Quang Chau and Van Trung industrial parks.
The province has documented nearly 700 cases since the virus recurred in Vietnam in late April.
Hosiden Vietnam Co. Ltd., an electronic parts supplier at Quang Chau industrial park, has become the epicenter of the latest coronavirus outbreak, reporting hundreds of community infections.
The local administration has decided to temporarily suspend operations of major industrial parks in an effort to halt the spread of the virus.
The MoH and many other localities have dispatched personnel to Bac Giang to assist the locality with contact tracing and extensive testing.
Experts are seeking a location in Bac Giang for a new field hospital that is capable of receiving up to 3,000 patients in response to the worst case scenario.
They are also exploring the possibility of setting up an intensive care unit (ICU) at the Bac Giang Lung Diseases Hospital to treat severely-ill patients.
Also in its 18.00hrs COVID-19 update, the MoH announced 10 more cases in Bac Ninh, another coronavirus hotspot, three more in Ho Chi Minh City, and one each in Lang Son, Hai Duong and Vinh Phuc.
The fourth COVID-19 wave has struck Vietnam since the emergence of the virus in late April, with 1,762 cases confirmed in 30 cities and provinces across the country.
Four more COVID-19 patients with underlying illnesses have died during the past three weeks.
Vietnam has so far detected a total of 4,809 COVID-19, including 2687 recoveries and 39 deaths.
