COVID-19: 12-hour infection tally hits 151, mostly in HCM City

VOV.VN - The Health Ministry reported the latest discovery of a further 151 more active COVID-19 cases, including 147 domestic and four imported infections on July 2 morning, with Ho Chi Minh City topping the list at 118.

Of the total detected in 10 Vietnamese localities, Ho Chi Minh City accounted for the most with 118 , Phu Yen (10), Dong Nai (5), An Giang (4), Long An (3), Nghe An (2), Dong Thap (2), and one each in Ha Tinh, Khanh Hoa, and  Binh Phuoc (1), of which 122  were detected in isolation or blocked down areas.

Of the cases in HCM City, 94 were found in quarantine and locked down areas, and the rest are being contact traced, while the new cases in other localities are either F1 contacts with confirmed patients or under epidemiological investigation.

July 1 saw the country document a total of 713 new active COVID-19 cases, including  693 local infections, and 20 imported ones, with Ho Chi Minh City recording the highest number of infections at 464, followed by the southern province of Binh Duong at 90.

To date, Vietnam has confirmed 15,905 domestic and 1,822 imported cases since the pandemic first appeared in the country early last year.

The number of local infections since the fourth wave of COVID-19 outbreaks that hit the country more than two months ago increased to 14,335.

The total recoveries rose to 7,247 after an additional 407 coronavirus patients were declared clear of the virus, while the fatality count stands at 81.

Since the  new COVID-19 wave hit Vietnam, HCM City has logged more than 4,420 domestic cases and has repeatedly detected new cases with unidentified sources of transmission in recent times.

The southern metropolis is accelerating a large-scale testing campaign by mobilizing 3,000 healthcare workers alongside 6,000 medical students to join the campaign.

Elsewhere at a regular cabinet press briefing held in Hanoi on July 1, Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son stated that the vaccination strategy has been drastically carried out nationwide in an effort to put the pandemic under control.

The Government has persisted with the dual goals of combating the coronavirus pandemic and boosting socio-economic development as it underscored the need to stabilize the macro-economy, control inflation, and ensure major balances of the national economy, Son emphasized.
