Conjoined twins face four more surgeries ahead
VOV.VN - Conjoined twins Truc Nhi and Dieu Nhi must undergo four additional surgeries in order to operate on their urinary, gastrointestinal, pelvic, and perineal functions.

The information was revealed by Truong Quang Dinh, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Hospital, during a visit to the twins by Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.
The separated twins are now on ventilators and given pain relief treatment in the post-surgery process, said Dinh, adding that the hospital will try as much as it can to resuscitate and prevent infection for the two babies.
The twins were born following a caesarean section back in June 2019, at Hung Vuong hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. At birth, the pair had separate internal organs but were joined together at the pelvis.
A year later the twins were transferred to the Children’s Hospital in the southern city in order to undergo a medical observation and to receive special treatment to prepare for surgery.
Initially the hospital had planned to carry out the separation operation in March, although it was later cancelled due to the impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic.
The long-awaited operation finally took place in July with the baby girls, named Truc Nhi and Dieu Nhi, now 13 months old and both weighing 15kg. With their physical development indicators close to that of normal children, the pair were considered healthy enough to undergo surgery, according to doctors.
The operation started at 6am on July 15 and was conducted successfully after a total of 12 hours. Although the two children remain in pain, the pair are both conscious.
Vice State President Thinh expressed compliments for doctors and nurses working at the hospital, and encouraged them to overcome the challenges ahead and bring fresh life to the baby girls.
