The opening of the four-day event being held for the first time in Vietnam attracted an estimated 9,000 youth delegates from Vietnam and a Chinese delegation numbering more than 1,000.
Nguyen Manh Dung, standing secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Wang Hongyan, secretary of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Youth League of China attended the launching ceremony and delivered keynote addresses.
Both leaders dilated on the importance of passing the baton to the youth of the two nations to construct a bridge on the foundation of friendship previously laid by earlier generations, paving the way to yet heightened cooperation.
We hope that the youth of the two countries will deepen their understanding, deepen friendship and deepen cooperation, underscored Mr Hongyan, and contribute monumentally to further enhancement of the comprehensive strategic partnership that exists between the two countries.
During the festival, the youth delegations will visit six provinces in northern Vietnam and exchange activities with the Vietnamese party and government departments, businesses, schools, youth and other organizations.
They will also participate in a bevy of environmental protection, culture and economic forums held at a large variety of venues. Most notably, they will pay a floral tribute at the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and visit the General Assembly in Hanoi.
Previously, to implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, the Vietnam and China Youth Leagues convened two festivals (one in 2010 and one in 2013) in Guangxi, China.
This year, the two countries youth delegations are comprised of outstanding youth representatives from various political, economic, educational, media, medical, scientific and cultural fields across the spectrum, including youth from Hong Kong and Macao SAR.
