According to the Yonhap news agency, a RoK ship carrying rice left the southwestern port of Gunsan on June 30 for the western port of Nampo in the DPRK.
The first shipment of 3,000 tonnes of rice came less than a day after inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the DPRK's officials agreed on how to monitor and verify the closure of Yongbyon reactor.
The RoK plans to send a total of 400,000 tonnes of rice to the DPRK, Yonhap reported. Meanwhile, the news agency added, officials of the two sides met in the DPRK's border city of Kaesong this weekend to discuss energy aid equivalent to 50,000 tonnes of heavy oil to Pyongyang.
