Vietnam values strategic partnership with Japan

VOV.VN - Vietnam treasures the extensive strategic partnership with Japan and considers the country as its top long-term partner, President Tran Dai Quang has said.

At a May 5 reception for Speaker of the House of Representatives Oshima Tadamori in Hanoi, the State leader suggested both houses of Japan support the government in continuing to provide official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, particularly when the two countries are connecting their economies and stepping up cooperation with many large-scale projects.
President Quang also applauded the development of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries over recent years as well as the exchanges between their young parliamentarians.

He spoke highly of the strong development of the Vietnam-Japan relationship in all fields, particularly in politics, security-defence, economy, cooperation among localities and people-to-people exchange, saying that the official visit to Vietnam by PM Shinzo Abe and the first State visit by the Japanese Emperor and Empress in March 2017 created a new momentum for bilateral relations in the future.
The Vietnamese State leader suggested both sides should continue their close coordination at multilateral forums, while working hand in hand to ensure navigation security on the basis of respect for international law and settlement of disputes through peaceful measures.

Vietnam also welcomes Japanese businesses to expand investments in the country, especially in the fields of infrastructure, high technology, supporting industry and climate change adaptation, Quang told his guest.

Oshima Tadamori told Quang that after returning home, he will introduce Vietnam’s potential to Japanese businesses, adding that he expects Vietnam to create favorable conditions in legal procedures and investment climate for Japanese businesses to invest in Vietnam.

He said that many Japanese enterprises and investors wish to seek investment and business opportunities in Vietnam, adding that Vietnam’s determination to reform administrative procedures and improve its investment environment is an important factor in attracting more Japanese firms.

He urged Vietnam and Japan to increase their coordination in regional mechanisms such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, and affirmed his nation’s support for Vietnam in hosting the APEC Year 2017.
