Vietnam sticks importance to time-honoured friendship with Azerbaijan
VOV.VN - Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh affirmed Vietnam’s recognition of importance to developing and expanding the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Azerbaijan while meeting on October 24 with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyevin Baku ahead of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit, set to open on October 25.

For his part, the Azerbaijani President said his nation regards Vietnam an important partner in Southeast Asia and desires to foster multifaceted relations with the country.
Regarding international and regional issues, Vice President Thinh and President Aliyev reached a consensus on the need to uphold the rule of law in international relations.
Concerning the recent complicated developments in the South China Sea (known as East Sea in Vietnam), the Azerbaijani President showed support for the stance of Vietnam and ASEAN on settling disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), respecting countries’ sovereignty, thus contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
In this spirit, both sides consented to boost coordination at international forums and organizations, especially the UN and the NAM.
They shared the view on the need to enhance the role and effectiveness of the NAM in preserving peace and stability in the world.
The same day, Vice President Thinh chaired a meeting with Azerbaijani friends in observance of the 60th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Azerbaijan.
