Vietnam regrets German announcement on Trinh Xuan Thanh

VOV.VN -   Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang has expressed Vietnam’s regret over a German Ministry statement on August 2 about Trinh Xuan Thanh’s case.

Hang told reporters during a regular press conference in Hanoi on August 3.  that according to a Ministry of Public Security and media report, Trinh Xuan Thanh turned himself in to police in Vietnam on July 31 and relevant authorities of Vietnam are investigating the case.

“Vietnam always treasures, and desires to maintain and develop strategic partnership with Germany,” Hang said.

Trinh Xuan Thanh, former Chairman of the PetroVietnam Construction Corporation (PVC) had fled Vietnam after he was found to have violated State regulations on economic management resulting in losses of nearly US$142 million for the PVC during his leadership.

On September 16, 2016, the Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Police Agency launched criminal proceedings against Thanh.

At the press briefing, the official also responded to reporters’ query about Vietnam’s recent apprehension of some individuals.

"Any violations of law in Vietnam are duly punished in line with the country’s legal regulations,: she said.

The arrestees had the signs of infringing upon Vietnam’s laws, she said, adding that the investigations have been conducted in conformity with the country’s criminal procedures.

“As in other countries around the world, any legal infringements in Vietnam will be severely treated according to Vietnam’s law,” she emphasized.
