UN Resident Coordinator backs Vietnam’s priorities

VOV.VN - Pauline Tamesis, resident coordinator of the UN in Vietnam, voiced her support for the nation’s priorities currently being promoting at the UN during a recent meeting with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, permanent representative of Vietnam to the UN.

Ambassador Giang congratulated Tamesis on her appointment to the position, with the diplomat sharing some of the things the country will focus on promoting at the UN in the near future, such as education, preparedness for disease prevention, climate change, and energy transition.

The Vietnamese diplomat went on to propose that the UN continue to support the nation in technology transfer, experience, knowledge sharing, and policy recommendations in order to help the country promote socio-economic development. He assessed that the nation and the UN both share the same goals, therefore it can be considered necessary to step up co-operation in areas of mutual interest.

In response, Tamesis expressed her pride at being appointed to her new post and agreed that this year marks an important milestone in terms of 45 years of relations between the country and the UN.

She went on to outline her great appreciation for Vietnamese contributions to UN activities and its efforts to consistently uphold multilateralism and multilateral co-operation, adding that the nation is also a model in co-operation with the UN.

As part of the occasion, Tamesis suggested that the country continue to support the process of reforming the UN development system, affirming that it will continue to actively participate in the process of making policies and plans for further socio-economic development moving forward.
