Sri Lankan President to pay State visit to Vietnam, attend UN Day of Vesak
VOV.VN - Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will pay a State visit to Vietnam and attend the United Nations Day of Vesak from May 4 to May 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on May 1.

The visit is made at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.
Running theme “Unity and Inclusivity for Human Dignity: Buddhist Insights for World Peace and Sustainable Development,” Vesak 2025 is set to take place in Ho Chi Minh City from May 6-8.
The event is expected to welcome over 2,700 participants, including approximately 1,250 international delegates from 85 countries and territories, comprising Buddhist dignitaries, followers, and scholars.
Speaking at a recent press briefing, Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang, Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and Chairman of its Information and Communications Committee, said the celebration aims to highlight Vietnam as a peaceful, hospitable, united, and harmonious country, and to promote Ho Chi Minh City as a dynamic, creative, and prosperous metropolis.
He added that the event also shows the consistent policy of the Vietnamese Party and State in respecting and safeguarding freedom of belief and religion.
Vesak 2025 will serve as a platform to promote friendship and cultural exchange between Vietnam and international friends, while affirming the country’s role and commitment to the United Nations and the international community.
