Alongside Thailand, Vietnam is an active and responsible member in the process of building an ASEAN Community of unity and sustainable development, she said while voicing her hope that the Thai Senate and parliaments of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA)’s member states would back Vietnam’s stance on the settlement of East Sea issue through peaceful means in accordance with international law.
The top Vietnamese legislator said she hopes the Speaker of the Thai Senate will pay greater attention to Thai people of Vietnamese origin and the Thai government will grant citizenship to eligible overseas Vietnamese in Thailand, including those in old age.
Ngan suggested that the two-lawmaking bodies support closer links between the two governments and work hand in hand to supervise the delivery of commitments made by both sides as Vietnam and Thailand will hold a joint cabinet meeting in Hanoi in the time ahead.
Wichitcholchai welcomed the visit by the Vietnamese NA leader and her delegation to attend the 40th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA 40) in Thailand.
He showed his confidence that as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020 – 2021 tenure and Chair of the AIPA 41 in 2020, Vietnam will make significant contributions to friendship among regional nations.
Thailand always supports Vietnam in issues of common concern, including issues at sea and other fields, he noted.
He thanked NA Chairwoman Ngan for inviting delegations from the Thai Senate, House of Representatives, and Thailand – Vietnam friendship parliamentarians’ group to visit Vietnam.
The host assured the Thai Senate’s willingness to welcome delegations from the Vietnamese NA to share law-making experience as a contribution to fostering bilateral links.
The Thai Senate Speaker told his guest that his office stays ready to discuss and promptly deal with issues related to overseas Vietnamese in Thailand.
He also affirmed his nation’s support and willingness to share experience with Vietnam in its capacity as Chair of AIPA 41.
